Do you know why you have to stand up from right leg?

Do you know why you have to stand up from right leg?

There are exact reasons, it's simple and deeply related to Japanese culture especially Sengoku period. (When many Samurai were conflicting.)

The man in the picture, he is called Miyamoto Musashi. One of the most famous great man, a Japanese history, an artist. I also like him.

And do you see the swords Katana? Generally they must be fixed on your left waist. He has two swords though normally it's said that most men used to hold only one katana.

Anyway let's back to the story of reason why we have habits to stand from right legs. Actually it's directly related with the side of holding katana.

When people had to put out a katana from the sword case with sitting position, they needed to pull out the whole sword by letting one leg stand and making the space to do it. Also, in case that they needed to swing left down from the top to cut someone after the pulling out the sword from the case, if they stood up with left leg first, they would cut down your left leg on the same time. That's the reason. But, when I went to Kodokan and asked my friend who is working for Kodokan why, he showed one picture and told me "Generally there is said Right leg first when you stand though, actually there were some exceptions despite even swordsmen's commonsense existed. There are some old writing that says how to stand up from left leg."
